Inclusion Youth Worker


Hours: 16 to 20 hours per week

Remuneration:  Actual pay £11,140 - £13,925 depending on hours


Main purpose of role:


This role is to help ensure all sessions are inclusive to all groups. This worker will help with the delivery of the LGBT+ sessions and will also work to support neurodiverse young people at sessions and to help inform any adaptations to provisions that can be made to aid this (e.g., quiet spaces, any general staff training requirements). Training will be provided for this role.


Main responsibilities include: 

  • To help oversee, develop and deliver our varied programme of activities that enable young people to develop holistically using informal and formal youth work approaches in line with the National Benchmark Standards and National Occupational Standards. You will specifically oversee these with an eye to ensuring inclusivity and that the needs of neurodiverse young people are met in all our provisions. Youth work activities include youth sessions, Youth Forum, Young Carers [delivered in conjunction with local secondary Academy], detached youth work, LGBT+ and allies work, and mental health support.


  • To have clear aims and outcomes when planning programmes and to undertake regular assessment and evaluation. This will include a range of activities such as residentials, focus groups, one-to-one sessions, club sessions and offsite activities that take place in the evenings, weekends and school holiday weeks.


  • A minimum average of 50% face-to-face youth work per week to be delivered flexibly throughout the year excepting times of annual leave. You would be expected to cover youth team annual leave and required to plan the sessions within their stated aims and objectives and utilise existing volunteer staff as well.


  • To initiate, develop and maintain positive relationships with young people in order to identify key issues relevant to them, and to support them in gaining accredited and/or recorded outcomes.


Person Specification:

  • At least 2 years’ experience of working with young people, families and community groups.


  • Experience of working to support neuro diverse young people.


  • Experience working with young people from the LGBT+ community.


  • Experience to demonstrate the ability to plan, deliver and evaluate positive, preventative and early help activities effectively, which enhance the wellbeing of young people.


  • Understand youth-led decision-making / participation models.

Shop Volunteer – part time

Main Purpose of the Role
You will work as part of our friendly shop volunteer team providing support to the Shop Co-ordinator, other volunteers and customers in the shop.

Daily tasks will include
• Sorting donations received.
• Creating eye catching displays within the shop and in the shop window.
• Preparing donated items for sale.
• Dealing with customers enquiries and serving customers on the till.

Person Specification
• Good communication and customer service skills
• Neatness and accuracy
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Responsible and reliable
• Ability to work on own initiative.
A creative approach to finding ideas to help increase profit in the shop is also desirable but not essential

Support
Previous retail experience is not required, and training will be given.
You will never be asked to work alone; you will always be working with another volunteer. Full training is given, and a list of contact numbers is provided in the event of queries or emergencies you may need help with.

Shop Volunteer Application Pack
Drop In Session Volunteers- part time

Main Purpose of the Role
This is an opportunity to help teenagers in the local area by working with them at our Drop In sessions. You will form part of our youth work team at the sessions where you will help to support young people, help young people feel valued and listened to, and help build up their self confidence and social skills.

Duties include
• Assisting the youth work team in running various activities 
• Helping young people to carry out the activities. Activities we run include cooking, arts and crafts and sports (you can specify where you would rather be)
• Providing a listening ear to any young people who wish to talk
• Assisting in set up and clear up of drop in sessions.

Person Specification 
• Good communication and listening skills
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Responsible and reliable
• Ability to work on own initiative
• A friendly, non-judgemental attitude.
Previous experience is not necessary and full training will be given. 
All volunteers are given a code of conduct for working with young people and it is important that this is followed.
All volunteers working with young people will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

How often
We ask that you be able to commit to one session every half term (that is one session every six weeks).

Session Details
Saturday activity sessions: Term time Saturdays at various locations.
Bolt Hole Sessions: Term Time at various locations within Lancing and Sompting.
There will always be one or two members of our youth work team available at all sessions and they are there to support you in your role as a volunteer. If you have any problems, you can speak to them at any time during a session or they are available during office hours.

Trustee Volunteer


Being a Trustee of Electric Storm Youth (ESY) is an exciting and fulfilling role and ensures that the charity fulfils its duty to local young people and delivers our vision, impact goals and values. 


Duties include: 

  • overall governance of the charity
  • strategic direction of the charity
  • developing the organisation’s aims, objectives, and goals

  • Desire to help local young people
  • Confident and engaging manner
  • Desire to work with Trustees, staff, and stakeholders of the Charity to promote and support the work of ESY.
