Youth Worker


Hours and pay: 10 hours a week, paid at £12.60 per hour. Actual £6,552 per annum pro-rata, (full-time equivalent £24,570 based on a 37.5 per week). 

Fixed term contract until 31st December 2026 (with the potential for extending, subject to funding).


Overview of position

We’re looking for a passionate and committed Youth Worker to join our charity team and make a real difference in the lives of young people. Reporting to the Senior Youth Work Manager, you’ll play a key role in delivering a diverse range of engaging, high-quality activities and sessions that inspire, support, and empower young people in our community.

You’ll work closely with other members of the youth team to create a safe, inclusive, and fun environment, where young people can build confidence, learn new skills, and reach their full potential. We actively encourage creativity, so you’ll have the opportunity to bring your own ideas to life through the programmes and projects you help deliver.


Key duties and responsibilities:

  • To assist the youth work team in delivering high quality group work sessions that enables and encourages young people’s participation at all levels.
  • Support groups of young people to access and engage in positive activities.
  • To engage with young people on a one-to-one basis during youth sessions or school-based sessions.
  • Referring concerns about the safety of the young people to the youth worker in charge.
  • Facilitate young people’s learning and personal/social development and respond to individual and group needs.
  • Undertake relevant and mandatory training as agreed with your line manager.
  • Adhere to Electric Storm Youth policies and procedures.
  • To work a mixture of days, evenings, weekends as negotiated and agreed, accurately logging hours in a timely fashion.
  • To give occasional cover for members of the youth work team as negotiated and agreed.

Young Carers Youth Worker


Hours and pay: 12 hours a week. Actual per annum pro-rata £8,352, (£26,100 full-time equivalent  based on a 37.5 per week).

Overview of position

We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and skilled Young Carers Youth Worker to join our dedicated youth team. Reporting to the Senior Youth Work Manager, you will play a key role in delivering targeted 1:1 support and mentoring to young carers within a large secondary school/academy setting.

This role focuses on supporting young people from Year 7 to Sixth Form, all of whom have caring responsibilities. Their needs are varied and may include emotional support, practical advice, advocacy, and help with building confidence, managing school life, and planning for the future.

You will also assist in delivering high-quality, creative and engaging youth sessions as part of our wider youth work programme.


Key Responsibilities 

  • To work alongside the Senior Youth Manager to run and co coordinate our young carers provision. This will mainly take place in a school environment
  • Provide consistent 1:1 support for young carers within the school setting
  • Develop trusting, professional relationships with young people to help them feel understood and supported
  • Work closely with school staff, families, and internal colleagues to ensure young carers' needs are identified and addressed
  • Keep accurate records and contribute to regular reporting and reviews of support plans
  • Contribute to planning and delivering wider youth work activities as needed, especially during school holidays
  • Assist with cover during staff absence, holiday programmes, and other charity activities when required.Facilitate young people’s learning and personal/social development and respond to individual and group needs.Undertake relevant and mandatory training as agreed with your line manager.
  • Adhere to Electric Storm Youth policies and procedures.
  • To be a part of a rapidly growing youth provision with the potential for more working hours in the near future.To give occasional cover for members of the youth work team as negotiated and agreed.

Youth Session Volunteer- part time

Main Purpose of the Role
This is an opportunity to help teenagers in the local area by working with them at our Drop In sessions. You will form part of our youth work team at the sessions where you will help to support young people, help young people feel valued and listened to, and help build up their self confidence and social skills.

Duties include
• Assisting the youth work team in running various activities 
• Helping young people to carry out the activities. Activities we run include cooking, arts and crafts and sports (you can specify where you would rather be)
• Providing a listening ear to any young people who wish to talk
• Assisting in set up and clear up of drop in sessions.

Person Specification 
• Good communication and listening skills
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Responsible and reliable
• Ability to work on own initiative
• A friendly, non-judgemental attitude.
Previous experience is not necessary and full training will be given. 
All volunteers are given a code of conduct for working with young people and it is important that this is followed.
All volunteers working with young people will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

How often
We ask that you be able to commit to one session every half term (that is one session every six weeks).

Session Details
Saturday activity sessions: Term time Saturdays at various locations.
Bolt Hole Sessions: Term Time at various locations within Lancing and Sompting.
There will always be one or two members of our youth work team available at all sessions and they are there to support you in your role as a volunteer. If you have any problems, you can speak to them at any time during a session or they are available during office hours. 

Youth Session Volunteer Application Pack

Charity Shop Volunteer – part time

Main Purpose of the Role
You will work as part of our friendly shop volunteer team providing support to the Shop Co-ordinator, other volunteers and customers in the shop.

Daily tasks will include
• Sorting donations received.
• Creating eye catching displays within the shop and in the shop window.
• Preparing donated items for sale.
• Dealing with customers enquiries and serving customers on the till.

Person Specification
• Good communication and customer service skills
• Neatness and accuracy
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Responsible and reliable
• Ability to work on own initiative.

A creative approach to finding ideas to help increase profit in the shop is also desirable but not essential

Support
Previous retail experience is not required, and training will be given.

Being a Trustee of Electric Storm Youth (ESY) is an exciting and fulfilling role and ensures that the charity fulfils its duty to local young people and delivers our vision, impact goals and values.
